Reports: White Sox Agree To Terms With Jeff Samardzija, Tyler Flowers

(CBS) The White Sox have avoided arbitration with right-hander Jeff Samardzija by agreeing to a one-year, $9.8-million deal, CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reported Friday.

Chicago acquired Samardizja in a December trade with Oakland. He'll become a free agent after the 2015 season if a contract extension isn't reached before then.

In 2014, Samardzija went 7-13 with a 2.99 ERA and a 1.07 WHIP in time split between the Cubs and Athletics. Samardzija is expected to be slotted in as Chicago's No. 2 starter behind ace Chris Sale. He has a career 3.85 ERA.

The White Sox have also agreed to a deal with catcher Tyler Flowers, the Chicago Tribune reported. Flowers hit .241 with 15 homers and 50 RBIs in 127 games in 2014.

Chicago no longer has any arbitration-eligible players.
