Agent Says Jeff Samardzija Open To Signing Extension With White Sox

(CBS) The agent for White Sox right-hander Jeff Samardzija told MLB Network Radio that the pitcher would be open to signing an extension with the Sox.

"Obviously they really put in a lot of effort this offseason to make that club better," Mark Rodgers said.

"And so out of due respect to (White Sox chairman) Mr. (Jerry) Reinsdorf and to (general manager) Rick Hahn, who's done a heck of a job, and (executive vice president) Kenny Williams, I told those guys, 'Any time you want to talk, I'll listen. Jeff and I will certainly talk.'"

The White Sox traded infielder Marcus Semien, catcher Josh Phegley, right-hander Chris Bassitt and first base prospect Rangel Ravelo for Samardzija in the offseason. He'll be a free agent after the 2015 season ends.

Samardzija had a 2.99 ERA in 2014 and will slot into the No. 2 spot in Chicago's rotation behind ace Chris Sale.
