Kris Bryant, Addison Russell Highlight Cubs Non-Roster Invitees To Spring Training

(CBS) Highly touted prospects Kris Bryant and Addison Russell highlight the 19 non-roster players who the Cubs have invited to spring training, which opens on Feb. 19 for pitchers and catchers in Mesa, Ariz.

Ten of the invitees were positions players: infielders Bryant, Russell, Jonathan Herrera, Chris Valaika and Logan Watkins; outfielders Albert Almora, Mike Baxter and Adron Chambers; and catcher Kyle Schwarber and Taylor Teagarden.

It's worth noting that Watkins tweeted earlier this week that he tore his Achilles' tendon and will likely be out for a long time.

Nine of the invitees were pitchers: right-handers Daniel Bard, Corey Black, Anthony Carter, Jorge De Leon, Pierce Johnson, Armando Rivero and Donn Roach; and left-handers Francisley Bueno and Hunter Cervenka.
