Public Says Goodbye To White Sox Great Minnie Minoso

(CBS) – The public on Friday began saying their final goodbyes to the "Cuban Comet" – White Sox great Minnie Minoso.

The 90-year-old died last Sunday of natural causes. He was a seven-time All Star and broke barriers including becoming the first black player in Chicago.

CBS 2's Jeremy Ross reports from Minoso's visitation at Holy Family Church.

Generations of White Sox fans filed through to honor his memory. Cubs fans stopped in as well.

Thomas Larney recalls how Minoso cheered him on when he was a 7-year-old recovering in the hospital. Minoso gave him a signed baseball and a pep-talk leading to a full recovery. The two remained friends for decades.

At noon, the church will host a memorial service followed by a procession.
