Mom Who Shot TV Cooperating With DCFS; Kids Won't Be Removed From Home

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services says the Algonquin mother accused of shooting her flat-screen TV will get to keep her three children.

The 50-inch flat screen TV was shattered by a shot from a rifle, say Algonquin Police.

And they say it was 40-year-old Jennifer Ullery who pulled the trigger, as her children sat on a couch in the room.

DCFS says it has found evidence of neglect, but that the three children will remain in the home. Agency officials said Ullery is cooperating with DCFS and that she "wants to work to promote a stable environment for her children."

A relative wrote to WBBM, raising questions about the handling of the case by DCFS, and questioning whether the children had been in school.

DCFS would not comment on that allegation.

Algonquin Deputy Police Chief Andrew Doles said police went to Ullery's home about a month ago to investigate a report she had shot her TV. She was charged with aggravated reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm without a firearm owner ID card - and three counts of endangering the health and safety of a child.

Doles said police have been called to the home before because of issues between Ullery and her husband. DCFS officials said Ullery has never been physically abusive with her children.
