Bears Sign Long Snapper Thomas Gafford

(CBS) The Bears have reached an agreement with long snapper Thomas Gafford on a one-year deal, they announced Wednesday.

The 32-year old Gafford is a seven-year NFL veteran who has appeared in 105 career games, all with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gafford has previous ties to the Bears, spending the 2008 training camp with the team. Bears assistant special teams coach Derius Swinton was the Chiefs quality control coach in 2012, so he's previously worked with Gafford.

Gafford's also had short stints with the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks. He attended the University of Houston, where he lettered four years as a long snapper.

Jeremy Cain was the team's long snapper in 2014, replacing long-time fixture Patrick Mannelly.
