Police: Man Breaks Into Batavia Dunkin' Donuts, Leaves Empty-Handed

(STMW) -- West suburban police are searching for a man who broke into a Batavia Dunkin' Donuts store early Monday but left without taking any money or pastries.

Video surveillance showed the man trying and failing to pry open the drive-thru window of the Dunkin' at 2002 W. Wilson St. about 1:30 a.m., according to a statement from Batavia police.

He eventually gave up and broke in through another window, going behind the counter and into the manager's office, police said. He found a safe, looked at it for a few seconds and then ran away through a back door without trying to open it, police said.

Employees at the store told police nothing was taken. Police do not have a detailed description of the burglar.

Batavia police are working with other local departments who have "experienced similar incidents," according to the statement. Anyone with information is asked to call detectives at (630) 454-2000.
