Feds File Charges In Wake Of Synthetic-Drug Death
(CBS) -- Federal authorities are going after the owner of a Chicago-area smoke shop where synthetic drugs were sold.
A local teen was killed after using drugs sold under the name iAroma, a form of synthetic marijuana.
Karen Dobner's son, Max, died after he bought the product at Fox Valley Westfield Shopping Center. He smoked it and later drove a car into a home in North Aurora in 2011.
"When I found they were selling drugs in the mall, I couldn't scream fast enough to the parents," Karen Dobner says.
She has led the charge to have synthetic drug she believes this case sends a message to other tobacco shop owners.
This week, the shop's owner, Ruby Mohsin, and her employee, Mohammad Khan, were criminally charged with selling a controlled substance.
Karen Dobner says manufacturers of the product should be held accountable, too.
