Looking For A Great American Summer Road Trip?

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- During the Great Depression, the federal government tasked a group of writers to capture the Great American Story.

Among the scribes, artists and journalists selected were these guys by the names of Saul Bellow, Studs Terkel and Nelson Algren.

A travel journal company called Wildsam is looking for the next Studs (or Ralph Emerson or Eudora Welty, who were also among the writers selected for the 1930s Federal Writers Project.)

Wildsam will choose two Travel Fellows and pay for them to chronicle their American adventure this summer.

"Working from the road, Fellows will be responsible for documenting their journey through a variety of different mediums, including archival research, interviews, daily written dispatches, as well as still photography," Wildsam said in a statement launching the project.

Qualified applicants must be able to travel full-time between July 24 and August 14.

Click here to apply now. Wildsam will select its Travel Fellows on June 1.
