Far South Side Man Charged With 'Upskirting' Girl, 16, After Following Her Off The L

(STMW) -- A Far South Side man used his cellphone to shoot video under a teenage girl's skirt after following her off a CTA Red Line L train as she headed to school last month, Cook County prosecutors said Saturday.

They said Steven M. Carmona, 40, started recording the 16-year-old girl on the Belmont platform April 10, continued as she got on a southbound train, then followed as she got out at the Harrison station to go to school and starting recording under her skirt as she walked up the stairs and made her way to the street, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

Prosecutors said the police found cellphone video of "upskirting" at Carmona's home and that his Ventra card placed him at the scene at the time.

He was arrested Friday while recording a 40-year-old woman on the Belmont CTA platform, according to prosecutors, who said so far he is charged only in the earlier incident, for which he is charged with unauthorized videotaping of a victim under 18.

Carmona, of the 10100 block of South Avenue M, also wanted wanted on a warrant for disorderly conduct, prosecutors said.

His attorney, Ronald Batovski, asked Saturday that his bail be set at $5,000, but Cook County Circuit Judge Peggy Chiampas replied, "Absolutely not," and ordered he instead be held on $150,000 bail.
