Bulls' Jimmy Butler Named 2nd Team All-Defense

(CBS) Bulls wing Jimmy Butler has been named to the NBA's all-defensive second team in a vote by media members. Butler totaled 132 points, the seventh-most among all players.

The first team was comprised of the Los Angeles Clippers' DeAndre Jordan and Chris Paul, Golden State's Draymond Green, San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard and Memphis' Tony Allen. Joining Butler on the second team was Golden State's Andrew Bogut, San Antonio's Tim Duncan, New Orleans' Anthony Davis and Washington's John Wall.

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau has time and again lauded Butler as one of the NBA's best two-way players. Butler consistently defended opponents' best perimeter player, though even by his own admission he needed to defend better to set the tone for a Chicago defense that wasn't as stout in 2014-'15 as it was a season prior. The Bulls ranked ninth in scoring defense, 11th in defensive efficiency and third in opponents' field-goal percentage.

Butler was also a member of the all-defensive second team in 2013-'14.

The 25-year-old Butler is on a path toward restricted free agency. The Bulls have indicated they intend to keep him in Chicago in the long term.

Bulls teammates Joakim Noah (six votes) and Pau Gasol (three votes) were among the other players receiving votes.
