Cubs' Bryant, Rizzo, Castro Each 2nd At Their Position In Early NL All-Star Voting Returns

(CBS) Despite not being called up until April 17, Cubs rookie third baseman Kris Bryant may be on track for an All-Star Game appearance.

In the early returns on National League voting, Bryant was second among third basemen with 583,583 votes, trailing only the Cardinals' Matt Carpenter. Fans vote on the starters, while players and coaches vote on most of the reserves. While Bryant trails Carpenter by a wide margin, it's promising that he's receiving a great deal of recognition for his strong start.

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo and shortstop Starlin Castro were also second at their positions. Rizzo garnered 489,255 votes to trail only the Dodgers' Adrian Gonzalez (929,016). Castro garnered 571,574 votes to trail only the Cardinals' Jhonny Peralta (595,741).

Bryant has a .281/.396/.489 slash line with seven homers and 31 RBIs. Rizzo has a .315/.438/.574 slash line with nine homers and 29 RBIs. Castro has a slash line of .265/.294/.335 with three homers and 24 RBIs.

Chicago's Miguel Montero was third among NL catchers, while Dexter Fowler was 14th among outfielders and Jorge Soler was 15th among outfielders.

Washington's Bryce Harper led all National Leaguers with 1,116,582 votes.

The All-Star Game is July 14 in Cincinnati.
