State Rep. Calls For Liability Insurance Requirement For Gun Owners
(CBS) -- The church slaughter committed by a young man with a gun in Charleston is the reason behind a plan for a new type of gun legislation here in Illinois, reports WBBM's Bob Roberts.
Auto owners have been required to carry liability insurance in Illinois for years. State Representative Mary Flowers, D-Chicago, says the same should be true of anyone who owns a gun.
She says she looks forward to discussions on the measure with the Illinois State Rifle Association.

"Not going to try to get past the, this is a conversation that needs to be had," Flowers said. "We're not trying to stop them from owning the gun, just like people aren't stopping us from owning a car. If you can afford it, buy it. If you pass a background test get it but also get the insurance."
Flowers is writing the bill this weekend.
