Baby In Stroller Killed By Vehicle Fleeing Scene Of Shooting

(CBS) -- A boy was killed after being hit by a vehicle that may have been fleeing a shooting on the South Side Saturday afternoon, according to Chicago Police.

The 13-month-old boy was struck while he was at a bus stop strapped into a stroller near 63rd and Ellis and was transported in serious condition to Comer Children's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Family identified the boy as Dillan Harris.

The vehicle may have been fleeing the scene of a shooting at about 1:40 p.m. in the 7700 block of South Kingston that left a 22-year-old dead, police said. A police commander at the the accident scene confirmed to WBBM that there had been a pursuit.

Community activist Andrew Holmes says the family was headed to the beach on an evening out.

"All of a sudden this car comes out of nowehere, lost control, hit the curb and hit the baby that was in the stroller," Holmes said. "The mother diligently tried to save her child."

Police say that they have two possible offenders in custody and are looking for a third.
