Ned Yost: Chris Sale Will Pitch 1 Inning In All-Star Game
(CBS) White Sox ace left-hander Chris Sale will pitch one inning in Tuesday's All-Star Game in Cincinnati, Royals manager Ned Yost told ESPN's "Mike and Mike" on Monday morning, a day after White Sox manager Robin Ventura indicated he'd rather Sale not pitch in the game.
Yost, who will manage the American League squad, told ESPN that he spoke with Ventura and the two came to an agreement. Sale threw 115 pitches in seven superb innings of a win against the Cubs on Saturday, prompting Ventura to say Sunday that Sale's big workload this season made him prefer Sale would sit out the Midsummer Classic.
Sale has thrown at least 108 pitches in each of his past 13 starts and reached the 115-pitch mark five times in his past nine starts.
"I also want him to pitch for us for the rest of the year, too," Ventura said Sunday.
At 8-4 with a 2.72 ERA and 157 strikeouts, Sale was a candidate to start the All-Star Game for the AL before his Saturday start dictated otherwise. Sale is the White Sox's lone representative in the All-Star Game.
