Some Roseland Residents Having Trouble With Landline Service
(CBS) -- In an age where so many people have dropped their landlines, some customers in Roseland are fighting to stay connected.
For some it could be a matter of life and death, CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports.
Sarah Williams depends on her life-alert because she lives alone and suffers from an auto-immune disorder. Pressing the button should get a live person on the line, but not now.
The problem is the AT&T landline is dead.
Gloria Williams says her mom's phone hasn't worked in three weeks, despite numerous complaints to AT&T, and she's not the only one on the block.
Pearl Blocker lives a few doors away. CBS 2 called her phone just to check -- it didn't appear to be working.
"I got a lot of people I don't hear from because they don't know my cell phone number," she says.
Plus, Blocker doesn't like using her cell because she can't see the numbers.
Loretta Bush is another neighbor. She's lucky because her phone was only out a week. After demanding a refund, her landline started working a couple of days ago.
CBS 2 called AT&T to get their side of the story, and a spokesperson said service has now been restored to everyone.
When CBS 2 called Mrs. Blocker no one answered her home phone, and the same was true for Mrs. Williams. Williams' daughter says her mother's home phone is still not working.
