Chicago Shootings Leave 12 Hurt In One Day

CHICAGO (CBS) - Twelve people were shot on Monday throughout Chicago.

Most recently, a man was hurt in a drive-by shooting late Monday in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The 27-year-old was standing on the sidewalk in the 0-100 block of East 102nd Place at 11:58 p.m. when someone fired at him from a passing red car, police said. He was shot in the right thigh and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.

A police source said the man is a documented gang member.

About four hours earlier, a 20-year-old man was shot and seriously wounded in the North Lawndale neighborhood.

He was in the 1500 block of South St. Louis at 8:45 p.m. when a dark car pulled up next to him and someone inside fired shots, police said. He was shot multiple times and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was in serious condition.

Forty-five minutes before that, a man who took himself to an Oak Park hospital told investigators he was shot in Austin on the West Side.

The 23-year-old man told officers he was shot in the 5100 block of West Washington about 8 p.m., police said. He walked into West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with a gunshot wound to the hand, police said. His condition was stabilized.

Another 23-year-old man was shot in the South Side West Englewood neighborhood about 7:40 p.m.

He was shot in the inner thigh in the 7100 block of South Damen, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

About two hours earlier, a man was shot on the Near West Side.

The 25-year-old was walking in the 1100 block of South Western about 5:30 p.m. when someone fired shots out of a passing vehicle, police said. It then drove off in an unknown direction.

The man took himself to West Suburban Medical Center with gunshot wounds to the right foot and left wrist, police said. He was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

Two teenagers were shot about 2 p.m. in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Both were shot in the 300 block of North Karlov at 2 p.m., police said.

An 18-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said. A 17-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the knee and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was also stabilized.

Several hours earlier in the South Side Kenwood neighborhood, a shooting left a man critically wounded.

The 21-year-old walked into Mercy Hospital about 3 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said. He told investigators he was shot at 47th and Drexel.

The man was transferred to Stroger Hospital, where he was in critical condition.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the Morgan Park neighborhood on the Far South Side at 2:35 a.m.

He was sitting in a parked vehicle in the 1700 block of West Montvale at 2:35 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. The man was shot in the right hand and taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition stabilized.

A 23-year-old man was seriously wounded in a shooting in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood just before 2 a.m.

The 23-year-old was shot in the chest in the 2300 block of West 19th Street, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.

At 12:20 a.m., a man was shot in the back in the South Chicago neighborhood.

The 24-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk in the 8500 block of South Escanaba at 12:20 a.m. when someone on a bike rode up and fired shots, police said.

He was shot in the upper and lower back and taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Monday's first shooting also happened in the South Chicago neighborhood, in the 8100 block of South Muskegon.

A 28-year-old man was standing on the sidewalk about 12 a.m. when a dark car drove past and someone inside shot at him, police said.

He was shot in the hand and walked into Trinity Hospital, where his condition stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
