Bears WR Kevin White To Start Training Camp On PUP List

(CBS) Bears rookie receiver Kevin White will start training camp on the physically-unable-to-perform list as he deals with a shin injury that he suffered near the end of offseason OTAs, general manager Ryan Pace said Wednesday in a press conference.

Being on the preseason PUP list doesn't mean White has to miss any regular-season games. The Bears want to see White work his way back into playing shape before taking to the field after they told him to stay off the injury for the past month.

The Bears didn't specify exactly what White's shin injury was or how serious it is.

"We're going to start him off on PUP so he can build his cardiovascular endurance," Pace said.

White was Chicago's first-round pick in the draft this year, at No. 7 overall.

Reserve quarterback David Fales will open on the PUP list as well as he deals with an illness that Pace called "nothing major."

Willie Young (Achilles) and Lamarr Houston (ACL) won't open the season on the PUP list after season-ending injuries in 2014. Instead, the Bears will work each back slowly. They both figure into the mix at outside linebacker and end.

"It's going to be a progressive stage with our coaches," Pace said. "It might not be full-fledged, 100 percent practice ... Just be smart with it, build them up with football activities."

Linebacker Jon Bostic is also good to go after missing offseason workouts with a back injury, though his return will be gradual as well with football activities, Pace said.
