Little Village Woman Attacked By Pit Bull Begged Cops Not To Shoot It

(CBS) -- A Little Village woman just wants to know why Chicago police shot and killed her tenant's dog.

The woman admits "Brownie" was agitated Tuesday night and, when she grabbed her collar trying to calm her down, Brownie dragged her along the sidewalk and the woman yelled for neighbors to call police.

But, when they got to the backyard, Martha Castillon says the officers shot Brownie, even though she begged them not to.

A police spokesperson says the dog began attacking one of the officers, so the other officer shot the dog.

"Brownie" had just had a litter of 11 pups two days ago.

"I am scared I am yelling 'Why? Why? It's not fair, it's not fair. She doesn't do anything,'" said Castillon.

Castillon went to the hospital with scrapes and bruises and the officer also got checked out.

The dog's owner, a 31-year-old man who lived in the same building as the woman, was issued a citation for not having a city dog license.
