Man Shot By Chicago Police, Ending Standoff In Bronzeville

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police officers shot a man early Thursday, ending an overnight standoff in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responded to a barricade situation about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4800 block of South Calumet, police said.

The man was shot after he fired about 20 rounds from close-range at police from the rear of the home around 3:30 a.m.

No officers were injured, police said.

The 46-year-old man was struck several times in the upper body and was taken to the hospital, but his condition was not immediately available.

The standoff started when Cook County Sheriff's Police were serving an arrest warrant, and the man pulled out a gun, which led to a standoff with additional officers and SWAT members.

During the night, police and the man's sister were using a bullhorn to try to coax the suspect out of the home.

The man was reportedly wanted on the domestic battery warrant because of the court complaint that was filed by his wife earlier this week.

The Green Line was shut down in the area, but service has since resumed.
