CHICAGO (CBS) -- A group of criminals on the South Side is using a social media app to target its victims.

The suspects are using the social media meetup and dating service Skout to lure men to similar locations to rob them.

According to Chicago Police, a female using the site sets up plans to meet the victims.

Once that person arrives at the designated location, several men beat and rob the man.

The incidents have occurred in:

  • The 7900 block of South Calumet Avenue on July 30 at approximately 5:30 p.m.;
  • The 7900 block of South Prairie Avenue on August 1 between 4:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and
  • The 7900 block of South Prairie Avenue on August 12 at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Police said  all of these incidents involve one female black offender working in concert with five to six male blacks 18 to 30 years of age with varying physical descriptions.

On its website Skout cautions its users "use the tools available through Skout that protect your anonymity to get to know someone before meeting them in person. If you would like more information about someone, we recommend using the Internet and government resources available to everyone."
