Golden Knights Parachutist Who Died After Air Show Accident Posthumously Promoted

(CBS) -- The U.S. Army says the 32-year-old parachutist who died after an air show accident here in Chicago has been posthumously promoted to master sergeant, reports WBBM's Steve Miller.

Sergeant First Class Corey Hood died last Sunday, one day after an accident during the Air and Water Show and now the army has announced his posthumous promotion to the rank of master sergeant.

The Army released a statement from the parachute team's commander Lieutenant Colonel Matthew Weinrich saying Hood was promoted, "for his demonstrated leadership abilities and tactical and technical expertise."

The memorial service for Master Sergeant Hood will be next Wednesday at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The Army says the Golden Knights parachute team is currently in a safety stand down in order to review procedures, participate in the accident investigation and pursue grief counseling as needed.
