Bears WR Kevin White Undergoes Surgery To Repair Stress Fracture In Shin

(CBS) Bears rookie receiver Kevin White has undergone surgery to repair a stress fracture in his shin, he tweeted Sunday.

The injury will keep White out at least the first six games of the regular season -- he's been on the physically-unable-to-perform list and will start the season on it -- and perhaps the entire year. After Week 6 and before Week 12, the Bears can decide to allow White to practice if they want. After that, they'll have to decide whether to activate him or put him on the injured reserve list for the entire season.

White suffered the shin injury at the end of OTAs. He had a setback on Aug. 11 after the Bears had previously indicated the injury wasn't that serious.

Bears general manager Ryan Pace has previously said that a rod would be inserted in White's tibia during surgery.

The Bears drafted White at No. 7 overall this year.
