Fans Excited As Cubs Clinch Spot In Postseason

(CBS) -- For the first time in seven years, the Cubs will be back in the postseason.

CBS 2'S Jeremy Ross reports fans are excited, but this wasn't quite how they envisioned ending that drought.

The Cubbies lost Friday night, but lots of fans found out Saturday morning the North Siders got some help and got into the playoffs.

They got help from the Oakland Athletics. The A's beat the San Francisco Giants late Friday, putting the Cubs into the playoffs.

The North Siders had a chance to get there on their own -- but the Pittsburgh Pirates beat them Friday afternoon at Wrigley, delaying celebrations until last night.

"Definitely exciting," Cubs fan Chris Tinerella said. "It's a young team. What I like about this team is they're not afraid of a curse and all that so hopefully they will put all that behind them and do a lot better than they have last few times they've been in the playoffs.

To give you some perspective of how long it's been since the Cubs were in the postseason: In 2008, George W. Bush was in the White House and Apple released their iPhone 3G. They're currently on the iPhone 6.
