After Brick Smashes Window, Rogers Park Chamber Of Commerce President Blames Internet Trolls

CHICAGO (CBS) -- After a brick smashed the window at the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce , the chamber president is blaming it on internet trolls who want the chamber shut down, reports CBS 2's Audrina Bigos.

Chamber president Bill Morton says now they've taken it too far.

"I was like, what is this?" Morton said. "I couldn't even believe what I saw."

A busted window, shattered glass and the brick.

"You don't expect someone to throw a brick through your window," he said.

Morton says it happened Tuesday morning when he was getting coffee in another room.

Why did it happen? He points to cyber-attacks against him and the chamber on social media.

"Really we've had enough of it, but they're hiding behind aliases and nobody knows who is who," Morton said.

The brick at the chamber is just a little bigger than the rock thrown into the door of a Jimmy John's down the street. It was hit earlier this month on North Broadway. A sushi restaurant on West Devon was also damaged and the door is still boarded up.

Like all the targets in Rogers Park this month there's no surveillance video. The chamber is stepping up security. Four cameras will be installed this week.

"We'll have a couple of outdoor cameras that will cover he front of the space as well as two inside that will face out to cover the windows," said Kristopher Luck, president of Quest Network Services.

So, if someone strikes again - the brick won't be the only thing they leave behind.

The window is being replaced Wednesday morning, so the chamber president is sleeping inside here tonight. He says it's to protect the stuff inside.
