DNA Samples Taken From Fox Lake Officers As Part Of Lt. Gliniewicz Death Investigation

(CBS) -- It's been one month since Fox Lake Lieutenant Joe Gliniewicz was found shot to death. CBS 2 has learned all Fox Lake officers are part of the investigation.

CBS 2's Audrina Bigos reports blue ribbons are still tied on street signs and banners remain in the windows. Not a lot has changed in 30 days, including the burning question: What happened?

A new nugget Wednesday: Fox Lake investigators say, "for elimination purposes" all Fox Lake officers were swabbed this week.

But why now? CBS 2 Security Consultant Ross Rice weighs in.

"There's been no matches so this would be the next logical step just to rule out any type of involvement by somebody on the department," said Rice. "Again, I think it's more a routine matter than any indication that there's foul play involving a fellow officer."

Detectives say DNA from an unknown individual was discovered in several locations at the scene on September 1. The quality of one of the samples is good enough to run through a database.

In an email to CBS 2, Lake County detective Christopher Covelli said: "We have taken over 100 DNA swabs from individuals we've conducted interviews with, first responders, and anyone who could have potentially had contact with Lieutenant Gliniewicz."

"A month later, they say 'Oh we found new evidence,'" said Fox Lake resident Robert Endres. "They keep dragging it out. We want straight answers. What happened?"

Investigators will hold a news conference on Thursday.
