Levine: Retired Outfielder Raul Ibanez A Potential Candidate For White Sox Bench Coach

CHICAGO (CBS) – Former major league outfielder Raul Ibanez is on the list of potential candidates to become White Sox bench coach under manager Robin Ventura, according to an industry source.

The bench coach spot opened up when the team fired coach Mark Parent earlier in the week.

General manager Rick Hahn said the White Sox coaching staff will have more analytics and data to use as a part of the daily preparation for games in 2016.

Ibanez was known as a solid teammate and great communicator during his 19 years as a player in the majors. A 43-year-old New York native, Ibanez did TV work for Fox this year. He was a final candidate for the Tampa Bay Rays managerial job last fall before bowing out of the final interviews for family purposes. Kevin Cash replaced former Rays manager Joe Maddon in December 2014.

Ibanez was also on a short list for a Yankees job in 2014. During his career, Ibanez batted .272 with 305 home runs and 1,207 RBIs.
