Drivers Fuming As City Takes A Mulligan On Expensive Loop Street Project

(CBS) -- Frustration is mounting over a big fat oops in the Loop.

A traffic-snarling, seemingly endless construction project just took a huge step backwards.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards show us why commuters are so mad.

A dedicated bus lane was too narrow along the $33 million Loop Link project, and part of it was ripped up this week. The city didn't talk to CBS 2 on Thursday.

As for drivers, they were talking.

"The street needs to be (expletive) fixed," one motorist said.

"When you miss the mark, the pain of repairing it can be pretty tough, we're seeing that now," says De Paul University's Joe Schwieterman, a transportation expert.

The Loop Link system will allot separate bus, bike, and vehicle traffic lanes on two miles of city streets.
