Father Of Slain Model Competition Winner Planning To Keep Her Memory Alive

(CBS) -- An Evanston man continues to grieve the loss of his 20-year-old daughter, shot to death last week as she was walking in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood, reports WBBM's Lisa Fielding.

Alan Scott says it's been a long seven days. He says he's still in denial over the loss of his 20-year daughter, Kaylyn Pryor, an Evanston Township High school graduate and aspiring model.

"This is the first time I think I've even slept," Scott said. "I'm still coming to grips. I'm still in disbelief, deep disbelief over this whole thing."

Pryor was shot in the 7300 block of South May on Monday November 2. She was walking with a 15-year-old boy when someone in a passing dark colored SUV fired shots. She was there visiting her grandmother in the same neighborhood where her father grew up.

"I bought this little house," Scott said. "It cost me a bunch of money. I did that because I wanted my kids to see something different. I grew up in the South Side. I didn't want them to see that. I moved to Evanston 18 years ago, when my daughter was two just to get away from that so for her to get killed on that block, the same block that I grew up? I can't believe it."

Scott says he wants to keep his daughter's memory alive, and plans to join with other parents the fight against gun violence in the city.

"I'm on board," he said. "Anything I can do. I'm going to find my voice some kind of way because my daughter meant a lot to me. I'm going to do the best I can for her tirelessly."

Pryor won the "Mario, Make Me A Model" competition in September. She was a cheerleader and played soccer and ran track at Evanston Township High School. Police have made no arrests in the case.

Funeral arrangements have been set. The visitation will be Friday at Calahan Funeral Home and services will be held on Saturday at New Covenant Church.

A $5,000 reward is being offered to find the person who killed Pryor.
