Bears Have A 20% Of Making Playoffs, Per The Advanced Calculations

(CBS) After a rousing 17-13 against the rival Packers on Thursday night, the Bears have a 20 percent to make the playoffs, according to FiveThirtyEight.com.

Chicago is currently 5-6, a game back of Seattle (6-5) and Atlanta (6-5) for the final wild-card spot. Green Bay holds the first wild-card slot at 7-4.

Given that the Seahawks hold the tiebreaker over the Bears via a head-to-head win in Week 3 and also that Chicago is behind the eight ball regarding many other potential tiebreakers because of a 2-5 record in the NFC, the Bears' most logical path to the postseason is to win out to get to 10-6 and have the Seahawks and Falcons lose at least twice apiece.

Giving Chicago hope is that its final five opponents aren't all that daunting, sporting a combined 25-30 record. The Bears host the 49ers (3-8) on Sunday at Soldier Field.

The Packers have an 87 percent chance of making the playoffs, while the Seahawks have a 56 percent chance. The Falcons have a 24 percent chance.

Not surprisingly, the Bears have a less than 1 percent chance of winning the Super Bowl, according to FiveThirtyEight.com, which calculates the numbers using an Elo-based model and utilizing 20,000 simulations.
