Some Aldermen Calling For Hearings Into Emanuel Administration's Involvement In Laquan McDonald Case

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Some Chicago aldermen want to launch a City Council investigation into the Laquan McDonald case, and Mayor Rahm Emanuel administration's involvement, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

South Side Alderman David Moore (17th Ward) and at least two colleagues want to hold Congressional-style hearings into how the Emanuel administration handled the police killing of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald.

But powerful 34th Ward Alderman Carrie Austin, an ally of the mayor, doesn't support that.

"Well, I think David is speaking out of turn so I think that he should keep that part of his opinion to himself until the investigations of what we have done already have been out in the open," Austin said.

But Moore says even the newly-announced Justice Department investigation isn't enough.

"The attorney general has asked for a Department of Justice investigation into the Chicago Police Department only, but this does not go far enough," Moore said. "Therefore, an independent investigation has to be done into the administration of what they knew and when."
