Man Gets 70 Years For Killing Woman, Covering Up Crime

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A southwest suburban man was sentenced Monday to 70 years in prison after he was found guilty of shooting a woman in the head with a shotgun in 2009, then trying to cover up the murder as police searched for the victim.

Circuit Judge David Carlson sentenced Brian Trainauskas to 65 years of murder for the death of Monica Timar in January 2009, and five years for concealing a homicide, according to the Will County state's attorney's office.

Judge Carlson found Trainauskas guilty in June, according to the statement.

"This was a vicious assassination by a dangerous killer who failed miserably in his desperate efforts to cover up his crime," State's Attorney James Glasgow said in a statement. "Thanks to a first-rate investigation by the Will County Sheriff's Department, Brain Trainauskas will spend the rest of his life in a prison cell."

Trainauskas, 40, used a a Mossberg shotgun to kill Timar in the basement bathroom of his home in the 20800 block of South Acorn Ridge in unincorporated Frankfort Township on Jan. 21, 2009, a statement from prosecutors said.

She was reported missing that same day, and her body was found in the trunk of her Ford Mustang two days later, prosecutors said. "She had been shot in the back of the head and was wrapped in a comforter."

Evidence showed "Trainauskas attempted to clean the room where he shot Timar and had painted the walls. The victim's blood, however, was found inside the defendant's house, and her blood was found on the barrel of the shotgun that was used to kill her," prosecutors said.

A witness also saw Trainauskas walking from the area of where he abandoned Timar's car on the day of her murder, prosecutors said.
