Chicago TV, Radio Icon Jim Conway Dies

(CBS) -- Chicago television and radio icon Jim Conway died last week at age 94.

Conway worked at both WBBM radio and TV. On December 7, 1941, Conway broadcast the news of the attack on Pearl Harbor on WBBM-AM. He would go on to serve as a naval aviator in World War II.

In addition to hosting morning drive on WBBM-AM, he also hosted a musical variety show "In Town Tonight" CBS 2 in the 1950s. Conway also hosted TV shows on WMAQ, WLS and WGN.

Jim died on Jan. 21. He is survived by his two sisters, four children, 12 grandchildren, 16-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

According to the Museum of Broadcast Communications, a private service is being planned at a later date.
