Police Investigating Shooting Death Of 76-Year-Old Man In Riverdale

(CBS) --Chicago Police are investigating the shooting death of 76-year-old Claude Cannon.

His body was discovered inside a home near Riverdale and Vernon avenues Tuesday afternoon. Cannon's brother, Darrell, who also lives in the home, called police after finding his body near the back door. Claude had been shot several times.

"This is another senseless murder," he said.

Darrell says his brother's nickname was "Uncle Bubba" because he was like an uncle to everyone in the neighborhood.

Darrell spent 24 years in prison for murder before prosecutors agreed to throw out his conviction in 2004. He maintained he confessed only because he was tortured by detectives under the command of former Cmdr. Jon Burge. He said detectives shocked his genitals with a cattle prod; and pretended to load a shotgun, put it in his mouth, and pulled the trigger. He received a share of the $5.5 million in reparations the city paid to 57 victims of the Burge torture era.
