Winter Storm Blankets Chicago Area

(CBS) -- A winter storm hitting Chicago expected to dump 2-4 inches of snow on the Chicago area Sunday.

The snow storm moved into the city around mid-day and is expected to stay through the evening. Sunday's high is 22.

The city has deployed a fleet of 280 snow plows to clear main roads and Lake Shore Drive. To view the snow fleet in real time, click here.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says it has 350-375 trucks clearing roads and will continue to keep trucks out all night and into Monday morning.

The weather is causing problem's at the city's airports. 135 flights at O'Hare have been cancelled and 35 at Midway, according to the city Department of Aviation. To check the status of your flight, click here.

"During this kind of weather we always encourage motorists to build extra time into their schedules before heading out," said an IDOT spokesperson.

On Monday, the high is 34 with partly sunny skies.

Temperatures are expected to rise through the week, with a high of 40 expected on Thursday and 51 on Friday.
