Wabash College Shut Down For Several Hours For Murder Suspect Manhunt

(CBS) -- Students and faculty at Wabash College were ordered to remain indoors for several hours and classes were canceled for the day as police searched for a suspect in a double murder.

Authorities were looking for Lucius "Lu" Hamilton, who police believe killed two people in a home in Zionsville, located north of Indianapolis. According to CBS Indianapolis, Hamilton was found dead in a downtown Indianapolis hotel room from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Hamilton worked for Wabash College, prompting a lockdown at the school, which was lifted at 2 p.m. after an extensive manhunt as police determined he was not on the campus after the shootings.

Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen said 31-year-old Katherine Giehll was found shot to death just inside the home and her son, 4-year-old Raymond Peter Giehll IV, was found in a living room where he had been watching television.

Nielsen says he believes a neighbor found the bodies around 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Hamilton, who police said is Katherine Giehll's uncle, worked at the college and was driving a van registered to the school. According to the college's website, Hamilton works in the development office, and graduated from Wabash in 1976.

Heavily armed officers swarmed the campus and told students and faculty to remain in the library.

"Wabash students, faculty, and staff are advised by Crawfordsville Police to remain indoors, and shelter in place. Classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day Wednesday, February 17," according to the college's website.

Wabash College, a private, all-male liberal arts institution with about 900 students, is located in Crawfordsville, about 50 miles northwest of Indianapolis.
