4 Killed, 8 Wounded In Tuesday Shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four men were killed and at least eight others — including a 14-year-old boy — were wounded in shootings Tuesday across Chicago, according to Chicago Police.
Most recently, a man was shot to death in the South Side Englewood neighborhood, police said. The 31-year-old was standing outside with a group of people in the 7000 block of South Morgan about 11:30 p.m. when several males walked up and someone opened fire. He suffered gunshot wounds to the eye, right arm and neck and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A man was shot to death about 11:05 p.m. in the South Shore neighborhood, police said. Officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 2300 block of East 70th Place found the 23-year-old lying on the sidewalk unresponsive. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
About 20 minutes earlier, a man was shot to death in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. The 25-year-old was driving an SUV in the 3200 block of West 64th Place about 10:40 p.m. when someone in another SUV fired shots, police said. The man was shot in the head, then crashed his vehicle into a garage. No one was injured in the crash. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
About 7:30 p.m., a man was shot to death in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side. The 23-year-old was inside a business in the 1200 block of West 69th Street when someone came in and fired shots, according to police. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the back and was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm any of the fatalities.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened late Tuesday in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side. A 20-year-old man was walking on the street in the 4200 block of West Madison about 11:30 p.m. when he heard gunshots and realized he'd been struck, according to police. He suffered a graze wound to the right leg and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. A police source said the man is a documented gang member.
Just over an hour earlier, a man was injured in a separate West Garfield Park shooting. The 21-year-old was walking in the 4300 block of West Jackson about 10:25 p.m. when he heard gunfire and realized he'd been shot in the left leg, police said. He took himself to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Less than 30 minutes earlier, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side. The boy was walking in the 7500 block of South May about 10 p.m. when someone inside a silver four-door vehicle fired shots, police said. He suffered a gunshot wound to the left thigh and a graze wound to the right thigh and was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Two men were wounded in a shooting about 15 minutes earlier in West Englewood. The men, ages 27 and 34, were walking on the sidewalk in the 6100 block of South Laflin about 9:45 p.m. when they heard gunfire and realized they had both been shot, police said. The 27-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the left arm and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. The older man was shot in the abdomen and was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.
About 20 minutes before that, a 28-year-old man was shot in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the South Side. He was walking in the 6700 block of South East End about 9:25 p.m. when a silver SUV pulled up and someone got out and fired shots before fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed, police said. He was shot in the groin, left arm and back and was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition.
Earlier Tuesday evening, a man was shot in the East Side neighborhood on the South Side. The 31-year-old was standing on the sidewalk in the 3500 block of East 96th Street at 7:04 p.m. when a group of males fired shots, police said. The man was shot in the left leg and taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Tuesday's first shooting happened at 2:37 a.m. in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side. A 17-year-old boy was in the 3000 block of South Komensky when a vehicle approached and someone inside fired shots, police said. The boy was shot in the right arm and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized. Police said the boy is a documented gang member and the shooting might have been gang-related.
