Mayor Emanuel Dismisses Reports Of Cheating Allegations On CPD Exams

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Mayor Rahm Emanuel is shrugging off reports that Interim Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson's fianceé is named in an investigation of alleged cheating on the last lieutenant's exam, reports WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore.

Emanuel says one of the reasons he left Washington D.C. was what he called the "game" of innuendo and besmirching people's character and he's not having it with regards to his nominee Eddie Johnson.

The mayor was asked if Johnson was vetted—checked out—properly. He says just look at the man's career. He detailed how Johnson moved up the ranks at the CPD, and says that was vetting process in itself.

"Eddie Johnson is a Chicago success story who grew up in Cabrini Green, rose in the ranks of the police department based on the record he built fighting crime," Emanuel said.

The mayor says he's proud to have nominated him and hopes the City Council confirms him.
