1995-'96 Chicago Bulls vs. Golden State Warriors: Which Team Wins?

CHICAGO (CBS) -- With the Golden State Warriors poised to eclipse the 1995-'96 Chicago Bulls' record for regular-season victories, who would win in a head-to-head matchup?

Comparing different eras is an exercise in pure speculation. Unless one crunches the numbers.

In fact, the data-driven experts at FiveThirtyEight.com give the Warriors a 93 percent chance of breaking the single-season mark in their season finale against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.

Using similar data analysis, Five Thirty Eight has found the 1995-'96 Bulls were the best team in the history of the NBA.

Using a system called Elo, the Bulls actually reached the peak Elo score ever (1853) when they pounded the SuperSonics, 108-86, to take a 3-0 lead in the NBA Finals. They went on to win Game 6 for the team's fourth NBA title that decade.

Golden State's peak Elo number (1839) was reached on Dec. 11, 2015.

The team currently rates a 1787.

Five Thirty Eight considers 1500 an average Elo score.
