Naperville Considering Ban On Possessing Powdered Alcohol
(CBS) -- The city of Naperville is trying to get ahead of a potential problem by banning powdered alcohol.
The sale of palcohol has been prohibited in Illinois since the beginning of the year but Naperville's Liquor Commission wants to take it a step further and totally ban it.
Commission attorney Kavita Athanikar says they want the power to fine those caught selling or possessing it, even adults.
"We want to make sure our children are safe and that this type of item isn't being transported to schools and parks and concert venues, but it's really something that we're keeping a close eye on," Athanikar says.

She says the fine could be between $100 and $500.
The maker of palcohol disputes theories that have led to its ban in about two dozen states, that it will be used by kids, snorted for extra potency or slipped unsuspecting into someone's beverage or food.
The liquor commission has one more meeting in which to debate issues before sending the matter to the city council, which could ban it as early as May 17.
