1 Dead, 8 Wounded In Monday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and at least eight other people were wounded in shootings Monday across Chicago.

The 35-year-old man was killed in an East Garfield Park neighborhood shooting that left another man critically wounded Monday morning on the West Side.

Michael Cunningham and the 26-year-old man were in the 3000 block of West Jackson at 11:47 a.m. when a gunman walked up, pulled out a gun and fired multiple times, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Both men were shot multiple times and taken to Stroger Hospital, where Cunningham was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m., authorities said. His home address was unknown.

The other man was listed in critical condition. Police said both men have gang affiliations and the shooting is thought to be gang-related.

Most recently, an 18-year-old man was shot and critically wounded in the West Ridge neighborhood on the North Side. He was found about 8:25 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the back in the 6400 block of North Maplewood, police said. The man was taken to Presence Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in critical condition. A police source said he is a documented gang member.

About 6:45 p.m., two people were wounded in what may have been a domestic-related shooting in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side. The 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old man were shot in the 7600 block of South Emerald, police said. Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. The older man was shot in the head and listed in critical condition, while the younger victim was shot in the hip and had his condition stabilized. Additional details were not available late Monday.

Earlier Monday afternoon, three men were hurt in a drive-by shooting in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side. The men were standing outside in the 1200 block of North Keeler at 1:39 p.m. when a burgundy van drove past and someone inside fired shots, police said. A 24-year-old man was shot in the left leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said. A 34-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and taken to Stroger Hospital, and a 58-year-old man was shot in the lower back and also taken to Stroger. All three of their conditions had stabilized. Police said the two younger victims are gang members. The van took off eastbound after the shooting.

Monday's first nonfatal shooting happened at 12:34 p.m. in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side. A 24-year-old man was standing outside in the 3000 block of West 66th Street when shots were fired from a passing vehicle, police said. He was shot in the hip and taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition stabilized.
