Tuesday Is All About The Rain For Chicago Area

CHICAGO (CBS) -- It's going to be a rainy day for Chicago, with showers and storms expected to continue through the afternoon and evening, especially for the southern suburbs.

Light to moderate rain has been falling for most of the morning across the Chicago area, and showers will continue to come and go in waves throughout the day.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a marginal risk of severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening, in areas south of Interstate 80. Isolated storms could bring winds of 40 to 60 mph, and a low risk of tornados.

Meantime, high temperatures were expected to reach the mid 60s for the Chicago area.

Things should begin to dry out overnight, although there is a chance for strong storms coming through late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning, especially for the southwest suburbs. Current forecast models show that storm system dying out a bit as it heads east, but it could still bring heavy rain overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

Temperatures could hit the low 70s on Wednesday and Thursday, before taking a bit of a dip for the weekend, with a high in the low 60s on Friday, and the upper 50s on Saturday and Sunday. The good news is the weekend should bring more sunshine.
