Body Found In Lake Michigan Identified As Missing Medical Student

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A body pulled out of Lake Michigan on Sunday has been identified as a medical student who had been missing for more than two weeks.

Ambrose Monye, 28, was last seen on April 21, walking towards the University of Chicago's John Crerar Library, a medical research library at 5730 S. Ellis Av.

Monye, a fourth-year medical student at the University of Guadalajara, was on a two-year rotation at Jackson Park Hospital and Medical Center. He was four weeks shy of graduation when he disappeared.

His younger brother has said all the lights were on at Monye's apartment, and the refrigerator was full of groceries when police went to check on him after he was reported missing.

The brothers are from just outside Baltimore, and come from a family of doctors. Monye's brother, Joseph, said their lives revolved around studying and more studying.

"That's literally all we do, because we don't want to encounter any kind of problems, so we just keep to ourselves. We focus on our studies, and mind our business, and it's odd enough this happened," Joseph said.

According to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office, Monye's body was found Sunday in Lake Michigan near Promontory Point Park.

A cause of death has not yet been determined.
