Blackhawks Sign 3 Players

(CBS) The Blackhawks signed three players Tuesday, including officially inking a one-year deal with Czech defenseman Michal Kempny.

Chicago also signed goaltender Lars Johansson and forward Martin Lundberg to one-year contracts.

The 25-year-old Kempny is expected to compete for the fourth or fifth defenseman spot in Chicago next season. He spent last season in Russia's KHL, where he scored 21 points (five goals) with Avengard Omsk. During the recent IIHF World Championships, Kempny starred on defense for the Czech Republic team and was named one of the team's three stars of the tournament.

Johansson, 28, played for Frolunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League for the past three season. He posted a league-best 1.74 goals against average in 2015-'16 and had a .927 save percentage. Johansson was named the league's Goalie of the Year. He's a native of Sweden.

Lundberg, 25, also played in the Swedish Hockey League last season, recording 21 points (13 goals, eight assists) in 44 games with Skelleftea AIK, for which he's played since 2007. He's a native of Sweden.
