Cubs' David Ross: 'Not Here For Anything But That Ring'

(CBS) As the Cubs have gotten off to a blistering 41-17 start that's far and away the best in the majors, they're conducting a balancing act in which their goal is to win the day and the World Series at the end of the season.

And yes, that's a topic of conversation among the players, especially the veterans like catcher David Ross, a champion with the Red Sox in 2013 who wants to get back to the game's biggest stage.

"The older you get, the more comfortable you get with your family and finances and when you're on winning teams and you get a chance to go to the World Series and do something special, you realize that's the greatest accomplishment you could ever have in this game and how much fun it is," Ross said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "And it kind of opens your eyes to that's all that matters. I'm not here for anything but that ring. I think if you talk to John Lackey or Jon Lester, Jake Arrieta, a lot of these guys who have been around for a little bit, Dexter Fowler, they're talking about it at the end of the day that it's all about the W. That's why we have such a special group. We have a lot of guys who have bought into that."
