Weather Threat Cancels Swedish Days Events

GENEVA (CBS) -- The threat of bad weather has forced one of the oldest festivals in the state to do something it has never done--at least in recent memory: pre-emptively cancel the entire evening program.

The Swedish Days Festival in Geneva has been going for 67 years.

And Laura Rush, spokeswoman for the Chamber of Commerce, says the weather - for the first time ever - has caused them to cancel everything else for the day - after 5 p.m.

"People have been calling all day - asking what is the status of it. And once we did cancel it, we have had people calling, very disappointed."

Rush says the food booths at Swedish Days are non-profits and this is often their biggest fundraiser of the year. So they'll be missing out on some fundraising.

Among the program cancellations: the semi-finals for Geneva's Got Talent but Rush says all the semi-finalists will be carried over to the finals on Saturday.

Swedish Days runs for six days and Rush says it's encouraging that the forecast for the next several days looks pretty good.
