Skokie Crime Spree: Stolen Cars, Injured Officers

SKOKIE (CBS) -- A crime spree that started in Skokie and ended 20 miles away on the South Side, included three stolen vehicles, a home invasion, an injured police officer and a car chase.

It began with the home invasion, CBS 2's Sandra Torres reports.

"They came in the middle of the night. There was about 6 of them," said Karla Villalta, adding she heard her mother scream about 12:45 a.m.

The family's white Nissan Pathfinder was stolen, and within minutes a Skokie police officer came across the stolen car, being followed by this red minivan, which had also been stolen.

The driver of the Pathfinder took off as the minivan slammed into the squad car, injuring an officer.

That officer was treated and released from the hospital.

Police arrested two men in the red minivan but a third suspect got away.

The person ran to Laura Williams home and took their Volkswagen Touareg.

But police caught him 21 miles away, at a gas station at 59th and Halsted in Chicago.

Police are looking for two other individuals involved, along with the Pathfinder, with Illinois license plate H-595187.
