Burr Ridge Resident Asks: Where Did My Pond Go?

(CBS) -- A man-made lake that has been a part of a park in southwest suburban Burr Ridge for more than 15 years all but drained overnight.
But it's not as mysterious as it sounds, WBBM's Bob Roberts reports.
The three-quarter-acre lake in McCullough Park is next door to the home of mood coach Jim Fannin, who says it acts as a source of inspiration for him.
He is anything but tranquil about it.
"It started receding like someone pulled a plug out of a bathtub," he said Thursday.
That is essentially what happened, Parks and Recreation Director Jim Pacanowski says. Earth embankments around one of the drainage vaults failed, he says.
Getting the word out to neighbors has been time-consuming, but Pacanowski promises quick repairs and says oxygen is being pumped into what's left of the lake to save as many of its fish as possible. He says it's just a matter of who pays for it, because the pond is a part of the regional storm drainage system.
It couldn't come quickly enough for Fannin and his wife CeCe, who call the pond "Lake Fannin" and consider it their own personal Walden.
Instead of peace, they said, there is the stench of dead fish and an influx of mosquitoes.
Pacanowski says one good rain should fill it up.
