Accused Of Rape, Former Salon Owner Runs Out Of Jail On Bond

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A former tanning salon owner, accused of four rapes, ran out of Cook County Jail on Tuesday after posting bond.

Marc Winner, 45, who previously owned Soleil Tanning Salon, had been held without bail since April 30 when prosecutors filed charges in the third rape cases.

He was indicted on a fourth rape last week, in which he is accused of raping a woman in his mother's home in 2010.

In the three other cases, Winner is accused of assaulting three women at his former salon between 2011 and 2015.

He was released from jail on Tuesday evening and literally ran from reporters, down California Avenue in traffic to a car about a block away.

Winner is accused of a total of nine rapes, but five cases are outside the statute of limitations for prosecution.

"Unfortunately, this is our worst nightmare," said Lesley Barton. Winner was arrested in 2001 and charged with raping Barton. That charge was later reduced.

"He nearly destroyed me. He really did, and I refuse to let him take that power," she said.

Winner had been held without bond since April, when he was charged with rape for the third time. Last week, after a fourth case had been filed, a Cook County judge granted him bail, on the condition he wear an electronic ankle bracelet. The judge also set a 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. curfew for Winner.

After running away from reporters outside the jail, Winner got into a waiting SUV.

"This is about the heroic, courageous survivors who came forward. They told their truth, and in the end he will be found guilty. I have no question about that," Barton said.
