Hey Dexter Fowler, How Does This Cubs Season End? 'With A World Series Win'

(CBS) It wasn't a guarantee, the context being important here, but a pair of Cubs were supremely confident Thursday in their prediction of bringing a championship back to the North Side of Chicago.

In front of a large group of fans at a Cubs On-Deck Luncheon Series, outfielder Dexter Fowler and catcher David Ross were asked on the Spiegel and Goff Show how this Cubs season is going to end.

"With a World Series win," Fowler said.

"100 percent," Ross added.

It's a vision the Cubs have consistently discussed and a primary reason Fowler spurned a multi-year offer from Baltimore to return to Chicago.

"Last year, I feel like it ended a little abruptly for us," Fowler said of being swept by the Mets in the NLCS. "We still have some unfinished business that we need to go (take care of). That was a big part of it, coming back and experiencing it with these guys. This is family. You're happy to be here and you want to be a part of something and be able to celebrate it forever."

The Cubs enter play Thursday at an MLB-best 71-41 and with a 12-game lead in the NL Central.

Listen to the full interview with Fowler and Ross below. Fowler and Ross comment on the World Series near the very end of the interview, but they discuss many other topics -- from rookie Willson Contreras' development to the Ross-Jon Lester relationship to Jason Heyward's value even as he struggles at the plate.
